There are many evidences from the Qur'an and Sunnah upon the fact that Music is Haraam.

Many books have also been written on the topic. I will mention a few evidences.

1. And of mankind is he who pays for mere pastime of discourse, that he may mislead from Allah's way without knowledge, and makes it the butt of mockery. For such there is a shameful doom. (Luqman verse 6)

Imaam Ibn Kathir mentions a narration under this verse. Abu Sahbaa al-Bakri says that he once heard Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud being asked regarding this verse. He said: "mere pastime of discourse is Music, I swear by Allah who has no partner". He repeated this three times.

A companion of Rasoolullah is swearing by Allah that this is the meaning of the verse. There cannot be any other possibilities.

2. Musical instruments are Haraam (Baihaqi)

3. Music grows hypocrisy in the hearts just as water grows agricultural products. (Abu Dawud)
